OverviewComments Brandon’s Mission with the Pittsburgh Emperors Brandon is a 21-year-old Level B player who has been part of the Pittsburgh Emperors adaptive hockey program for the past two seasons. During that time, hockey has become more than just a sport for Brandon — it’s become a place where he can connect with others, grow his confidence, and enjoy being part of a team. For Brandon, hockey means having fun while learning something new and gaining valuable social interaction with his peers. What he enjoys most about being on the ice is simple but powerful: being out there with his teammates. Brandon on the Ice Every team has players who bring energy, honesty, and personality — Brandon brings all three. Known for speaking his mind (and yes, sometimes complaining), Brandon still shows up, skates hard, and stays engaged with his teammates and coaches. Even when things feel challenging, being part of the Emperors gives Brandon a reason to keep pushing forward and stay involved in something positive. Working Through Challenges Brandon navigates life with ADHD, ODD, and autism, and trying new things doesn’t always come easily for him. Change can be difficult, and stepping outside of his comfort zone is a real challenge. That’s what makes his commitment to hockey so meaningful. Despite giving his coaches a hard time now and then, Brandon continues to show up — and deep down, his family knows he truly enjoys being on the ice with his teammates. The support, patience, and consistency of the Emperors program have helped Brandon feel safe, accepted, and included. Why the Pittsburgh Emperors Matter to Our Family As a family with multiple children with special needs, finding an organization like the Pittsburgh Emperors has been incredibly important. The Emperors welcome players of all abilities and help remove barriers by providing and supporting the equipment players need. This allows families to focus on what really matters — watching their children learn, make friends, and thrive in a sport they love. Practice nights are about more than hockey. They’re about community, friendships, and seeing kids grow in confidence both on and off the ice.
